MPW launched summer programmes in Cambridge in the summer of 2022. Students aged 14-17, from all over the world, study with us and reside at our student accommodation- Tripos Court. This is a 15–20-minute walk from MPW Cambridge.

Summer students study an innovative, high-quality academic programme, with a choice of eight academic streams, including a life skills programme. They also enjoy a packed schedule of social and cultural activities to make the most of their time outside of the classroom, plus lectures and career talks given by world experts and leading university academics in their respective fields.

The role

We are recruiting for dynamic Computing, Robotics, and AI teachers to teach this exciting academic summer school stream. Resources will be provided and are developed by our experienced MPW staff. The right candidates will have the opportunity to contribute new ideas and bring their expertise to the role. The classes are very small and collaborative. Accommodation is also available for the right candidate. There is an opportunity to teach Eton X life skills sessions in the afternoons for an additional 6 hours of teaching per week.

Main responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality lessons for approximately 3.5 hours each day, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There is a paid break from 10:00-10:30 am each day.

• Provide support and advice to individuals on future degree and career options within your specific academic stream.

• Write a report on each student at the end of the 2-week programme.

• To be punctual, start lessons on time and be fully prepared for each day of the programme

About you

  • Experience teaching robotics with Arduino
  • Experience programming with JavaScript
  • Degree in computer science or related field ( essential)
  • Summer school or holiday programme experience (desirable)
  • Good people skills, cultural awareness, and sensitivity
  • Experience teaching young people and/or teenagers
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic
  • Fluency in English- written and spoken


Desirable:

  • Experience advising students on UK university options for engineering and computer science
  • Experience programming games software ( AI, animation)
  • Teaching qualification


Our offer

  • Salary: £47 per hour, 2-week minimum commitment

Mander Portman Woodward is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in Cambridge. It is an independent school that forms part of the Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) group of schools, which also has schools in London and Birmingham. A smaller than average-sized secondary school, it will provide 240 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 14-20, when fully subscribed.

The MPW organisation was established in 1973 as the “route to the UK’s top universities” for students. The Cambridge branch of MPW schools opened in 1987, occupying two linked Victorian houses and another nearby house.
