HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (SPORT)

Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We run our own prestigious and well-established Summer School for children aged 8-16 from approximately 40 nationalities. Each year we create a vibrant international community where our staff play a critical role in creating a happy and formative summer experience for our students. 

We are looking for a Head of Department (Sport) to lead our busy summer school sports department. You will oversee a programme of sports for all summer school students that will enable them to work in teams, grow in confidence and develop their sporting skills, utilising all of the campus sports facilities. You will lead a team of sports teachers, coaches and staff assistants, ensuring a professional approach to summer school operations at all times.

Applicant must hold a PGCE/PGDE or relevant coaching qualifications. Experience of working in an educational, boarding or summer school environment is also required.

Summer School operates two courses and the Head of Department (Sport) is required to be available for the full duration. 2024 dates, including mandatory induction, are:

Tues 2nd July – Mon 5th August

Residential position with full board. Competitive Salary.

About Gordonstoun

The School
Gordonstoun is known for the wide range of activities that it provides for girls and boys throughout the School's 6-18 age range. It has first-class facilities for these activities which include, in addition to all the normal subjects and many outdoor pursuits, expeditions, seamanship and a wide variety of rescue services.
The creative life of the School is vibrant and well developed, with Drama, Art, Music and Technology central to the life and ethos of Gordonstoun. There are opportunities for staff to contribute both in the role of expert or as an enthusiastic amateur.

Location
Gordonstoun stands in 200 acres of woodland, within walking distance of sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches on the beautiful coast of the Moray Firth in Scotland. Six miles away is the historic city of Elgin. Lossiemouth nearby is well known for its picturesque harbour, fine golf courses and Royal Air Force Station. The City of Aberdeen is about 90 minutes drive away, while an hour's drive takes you to the ski resort of Aviemore at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains. Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is forty miles away and is itself only about an hour away from London (Gatwick) by air.
