Job overview

Job Purpose and Remuneration

The super-curricular programme at Queen Ethelburga’s encapsulates all activities that foster academic endeavour beyond the measurable outcomes of examination results.  Engaging in these  activities beyond the classroom will help students develop a love of learning for their favourite subject(s).  The aim of this job role is to provide students with a range of opportunities across the Collegiate that helps them to develop their understanding of their chosen curriculum further. It is designed to be combined with a teaching role (approximately 60% of a typical teaching timetable), all subject specialisms will be considered.

The School Teams and Careers

Super-curricular activities should be specially selected to enhance students’ chances of entry into highly competitive degree courses, particularly those at Oxford and Cambridge and courses which require entrance tests and/or interviews.  The candidate should work closely with the relevant staff in each school team and the Careers Department to ensure that the programme is suitably stimulating for the target audience.

Expectations

Plan, lead and attend all super-curricular sessions, delivering as appropriate.  Staff contribute to duties and run an after school activity.  Supervision of an evening prep session until 8.15pm is required on one evening each week.  Support for weekend trips on 2 occasions each year and other functions which support the life of an active boarding school is also required, as is attendance at Open Days.  There is no Saturday morning school and we teach for 34 weeks of the year.

The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the Collegiate’ s Child Protection Policy at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school s/he must report any concerns to the Collegiate’ s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Breach of confidentiality is a gross breach of discipline.

Interviews will be held week commencing the 4th February 2019.
