Our Primary and Secondary schools are located on two large campuses in the International Zone of The Hague. Support Specialist Mathematics plus Mathematics Cover Teacher

0.6-0.8 FTE

Post description

  • Work with students from the German and/or Dutch and/or the English section, individually or in small group setting, and/or within the regular classroom as needed;
  • Develop the Student Support Plans for individualized learning needs, implement the plan, and use diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update the plan as needed;
  • Provide written and oral consultation to the Support Team members, other school staff and parents on individual progress and/ or learning strategies and recommendations;
  • Employ evidenced based best practices and instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting the student’s support objectives;
  • Cover Mathematics lessons for short or long term absences of class teachers.
  • Attend whole staff meetings, serve on staff committees.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified Mathematics teacher status for Secondary Education in the country the qualification is obtained. Your teaching qualification must meet the standards required by the Dutch Education Authorities (DUO) (First-degree teaching/ Eerste graads);
  • Excellent command of the English language (C2 level);
  • Experience with teaching Mathematics at second-degree secondary education teacher level or a higher vocational qualification;
  • Proven experience supporting students with learning differences within a school environment to assist with curriculum and assessment accessibility;
  • Willingness to explore, identify and implement evidenced based curricular and best practices to enhance student curriculum and assessment accessibility;
  • Knowledge of the EB Math syllabus or willingness to become familiar with them before starting working.

Desirable

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of Mathematics support in an International school setting;
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary student support teams;
  • Experience of working in a multilingual environment with specific language needs;
  • Experience in coaching and supporting teachers in meeting individual students needs;
  • Familiar with EB, IB, GCSE, A levels or similar;
  • Willingness to be involved in extra-curricular activities;
  • Knowledge of other EU languages is an advantage.
  • Ability to teach Mathematics and/or offer support lessons in Dutch and/or German.

Skills and Abilities

  • Possess effective communication skills and relates well with all students, teachers and support staff;
  • Good organizational and administration skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and work effectively within a team;
  • Ability to assess, record, plan, set goals, evaluate progress and produce reports and explicit teaching techniques relating to student needs;
  • IT skills relevant to supporting students with additional educational needs;
  • Demonstrates a willingness to be committed to several tasks as required and manage time well to ensure quality outcomes.

  • An appointment based on the Dutch teachers' collective labour agreement for secondary education (CAO VO) on the relevant pay scale. The specific step in the scale depends on relevant background and experience;

About Europese School Den Haag Rijnlands Lyceum Secondary School

The European School The Hague (ESH) is part of Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation (in Dutch: Stichting het Rijnlands Lyceum). Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation is an ambitious foundation that offers both primary and secondary education and national and international education. The 1100 staff members at eight schools provide innovative quality education to more than 7000 students with a focus on global citizenship.

The ESH is a unique school. We were established in 2012 to educate the children of employees of European Union institutions. We provide a multilingual and multicultural education to Early Years, Primary and Secondary school children culminating in the European Baccalaureate. We are an officially Accredited European School, partly administered and financed by the Dutch national education system, and accredited by the Board of Governors of the European Schools since December 2012. We are part of the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation.

ESH Primary is conveniently situated in between the city centre and the beach of Scheveningen. ESH Secondary is located 4,5 km from ESH Primary and 10 minutes by bike from Central Station.

Curriculum

ESH uses the European Schools curriculum. The curriculum incorporates the established 8 Key Competences. Learning is planned in a cross-curriculum manner, linking concepts and skills across subject areas. We also strive to include our core values in our teaching.Early Years involves a cycle of 2 – 2.5 years and the Primary cycle, 5 years. Working at ESH

The ESH has favourable Dutch social and working conditions, and offers a fantastic working environment, located in the international zone of The Hague  (in Dutch: Den Haag). Requirements for teaching positions:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Hons), or equivalent
  • Fully qualified teacher status for secondary education in the country the qualification is obtained, and in the subject applied for (UK/Ireland/Scotland: you have been awarded QTS and have successfully completed - or are exempt from - the statutory induction period)
  • Successful teaching experience
  • Knowledge of international curricula
  • Experience teaching pupils in their second language
  • Fluent in the language in which you teach
  • Knowledge of two or more European Union languages preferred
  • Experience working collaboratively in an international environment
