About Inclusion College 

Inclusion College is an independent non-maintained special college, with places funded by local authorities, established to support the social, emotional, and mental health complexities of young people with an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) and enable them to access a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum through a nurturing, safe and inclusive environment. 

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND/SEMH College Support Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to students with SEND and SEMH needs, helping them navigate their academic journey, develop essential skills, and promote their overall well-being. 

We are as passionate about our staff’s mental health and wellbeing as we are about our learners which is why we are in receipt of a Leeds Beckett, University Carnegie Gold medal Award for Mental health in schools and a mental health committed employer with our Employee Assistance Programme and supportive culture.  

Key Responsibilities 

Student Support:  

  • Key worker: for pastoral support for a small number of students  
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEND and SEMH needs. 
  • Assist students with academic work, including organizing study materials, note-taking, and understanding course content. 
  • Develop and implement individualised support plans based on each student's unique needs and goals. 
  • Work with tutor and students to deliver 1:1 programme based on tutor planning  

Emotional & Behaviour Support: 

  • Offer emotional support and mentoring to students, helping them develop coping strategies and resilience. 
  • Promote the Inclusion ethos, values, and positive behaviour. 
  • Dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging learners to take responsibility and reflect on their own behaviour. 
  • Promote wellbeing through practical, timely and appropriate interventions. 
  • Facilitate social skills development and peer interactions. 

Monitoring and Reporting: 

  • Monitor and record student progress, maintaining accurate and confidential records. 
  • Provide regular feedback to tutors, teachers. students, parents, on progress and areas needing improvement. 
  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation required for assessments and reviews. 

Collaboration:  

  • Support a multidisciplinary team, including tutors, teachers, other support workers, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education and wellbeing. 

Professional Development: 

  • Stay current with best practices and developments in SEND and SEMH education through continuous professional development and training. 

Safeguarding:  

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to college safeguarding policies and procedures. 


Skills, Experience & Qualification Requirements  

Essential: 

  • Level 2 maths and English  
  • Experience working with SEND and/or SEMH needs  
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with young people conducive to a learning environment. 
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. 
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills. 
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to support. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills 
  • Knowledge of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and promoting the welfare of the young people and a good understanding of best practices in SEND/SEMH support. 
  • A good standard of verbal and written communication and IT skills. 

  Desirable: 

  • Additional qualifications or training in SEND/SEMH education  
  • Experience in an education setting.  
  • Experience in working with teenagers with SEMH  
  • Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies

  • Empathy and patience in working with students with diverse needs. 
  • Creativity in designing engaging and accessible learning activities. 
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. 
  • Commitment to inclusive education and the empowerment of all learners.

  • Knowledge and experience of supporting mental health and other complex needs.  
  • Ability to listen to and communicate effectively and empathetically with young people aged 16 -25.
