Job overview

The Role

The KEHS Physical Education department is looking to recruit a Level 2 qualified swimming coach to run our swimming squad training and to run a Lifesaving Club. Currently, the KEHS Swim Club and Lifesaving sessions run at lunchtimes and after school. The swimming teams compete in such events as the Warwick 50s and the Bromsgrove relays, as well as the ESSA events. The Lifesaving Club has competed in rookie competitions as well as working towards lifesaving and personal survival qualifications.

Outside of the extracurricular sessions, the successful participant would be expected to support weaker swimmers in curriculum lessons, with the aim being that all pupils at KEHS are confident swimmers by the time they leave. There is also scope for the position to support our sports outreach programme. This involves supporting local primary schools to deliver their swimming programme using our facilities. A willingness to get involved in other activities within the PE department, and to support colleagues with administrative and organisational tasks, is also expected.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

§ Coordinate and run swimming squad training sessions

§ Select teams and attend galas and other competitions

§ Support (and on occasion lead) swimming lessons in curriculum time

§ Be willing to deliver Rookie Lifesaving (if not presently qualified, training would be provided)

§ Be willing to deliver Bronze to Gold Medallion training (if not presently qualified, training would be provided)

§ Support the PE department when required with fixtures and events for other sports

§ Take responsibility for some of the PE administrative tasks, such as booking transport and ordering equipment

The KEHS PE Department

Sport plays a very important part in school life.  We aim to provide excellence and high levels of participation for all: our best teams compete at national level but it is important to us that our curriculum sport is inclusive and that our extra-curricular activities are a place where the girls can flourish and gain a positive approach to movement and exercise for life.

The school has outstanding outdoor facilities: five netball courts, seven tennis courts, a grass field for football, cricket and rounders, as well as an excellent athletics track, and two all-weather hockey pitches.  Our indoor facilities are of a similar high standard, boasting a large sports hall, a dance studio, a fully equipped fitness suite and an indoor swimming pool.

The PE department currently consists of four full-time members of staff, all of whom have played sport at a high level, a PE sports Graduate and several part-time professional coaches.  Every girl has the opportunity to experience a huge variety of sporting activities, from the diverse core curriculum to the wide range of extra-curricular activities.  The major team sports are hockey and netball, with over 100 fixtures each season and in recent years our football, cricket, swimming and gymnastics teams have developed and are showing huge potential for success.

We run an annual Dance production, which is a key event in the KEHS calendar, involving over 100 dancers from years 7 to 13, in many different choreographed dance performances.
