Job overview

The governors and leadership team of our school wish to appoint a committed, enthusiastic and excellent teaching assistant to work to support learners across our school, and for three mornings a week to support the development of a child who has an EHCP.  The successful candidate will share responsibility for the child’s support to ensure that he continues to build independence and resilience in preparation for his move to Secondary school.

Our successful applicant will be someone with a strong vocational commitment to improve the life chances of children.  They will need to be able to carry out regular risk assessments in all situations to identify risk and ensure a safe system of work is in place.

Our ideal candidate will have a flexible and adaptable personality.  We are not looking for a ‘velcro TA’, rather a professional who can support a child where necessary but work with groups of children also to help develop and foster good learning and growing independence.

You must possess a good sense of fun, a willingness to be reflective, be committed to continual improvement through professional dialogue and exploration and enjoy working flexibly as part of a team.  If you fit this criteria and feel you can take a pro-active role in helping our children to be the best they can be then we would love to hear from you.

Letters of application should be submitted, stating:

• why you are interested in the role,

• what you believe would make the ‘perfect’ 1 to 1 teaching assistant,

• what experience you bring to the role,

• any additional strengths or interests you may have that would contribute to the community of our school and the experiences we could provide children,

• why you believe you are the right person for the role – referencing the criteria mentioned above for an ideal candidate.

We warmly welcome visits to look around our school.   Please contact the school office to book a place on one of these visits.

We are committed to safeguarding the safety and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful candidate will be required to have Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Government’s safer recruitment guidelines.  We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community St. James’ CE Primary Academy is committed to equal opportunities.

Welcome to this introduction to St. James' CE Academy.

At the heart of everything we do are the children.  The seven years they spend with us is an extremely precious time of enormous growth and change.  We seek to make every opportunity a learning experience and squeeze the value out of every inch of every day.  You will see from much of the content of our website how central the children are and what fantastic ambassadors they are for the younger generation.

Although learning is our core purpose, so is laughter, friendship, challenge, exploration and collaboration.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
