Job overview

Welcome to Barrow Hill Junior School:

A village school in the heart of Central London!

Salary: main pay range, according to experience (£28,660 to £ 39,006)

We treat teachers with respect and invest in your career, here’s how:

  • We employ three teachers for every two classes in each year group so that your English and Maths classes are much smaller than in most schools. It’s much better that way.
  • We invest a lot more money in your career development and on-the-job training than most schools nationally and locally (source: Westminster Schools Profile) – we want you to do well here.
  • Barrow Hill is a genuinely friendly place to work, where teachers are valued as individuals.

Barrow Hill Junior School is just two minutes from St John's Wood Underground station and within speedy reach of the West End, mainline stations and all major bus routes. Lord’s Cricket Ground is virtually next door and Regents Park is two streets away. It is a very happy, ambitious and sparky two-form entry school with 240 Key Stage 2 pupils. It’s popular and well-loved locally.

We are a ‘Good’ school aiming for ‘Outstanding’. Our Reading, Writing and Maths results are in the top 20% nationally. Our attendance is the best in Westminster and behaviour is excellent – come and see for yourself! We have earned our reputation because we focus on standards, creativity, care and respect in equal measure.

This year we have added a bespoke science lab and a sports pitch to go along with the existing learner swimming pool and ICT suite: our facilities and classrooms are great to work in. Our support includes 1:1 coaching/team teaching with good quality consultants to help with planning and delivering enjoyable lessons for your children. Your year group team all have PPA at the same time, including your LSA. We encourage collaboration at each point.

We are looking for a teacher to join our team in September.  Here’s what we are looking for:

  • Someone who will join in our team with good spirit and contribute their ideas
  • Someone who will use our support well and make it their own
  • Someone who will really go the extra mile so that learning is enjoyable and purposeful for our children
  • Someone who has a good work ethic and will model our school values, putting them in action

We can offer you in return…

  • Small English and Maths groups each morning with children who are fun, respectful and creative.
  • A bespoke CPD package with excellent support from quality consultants who have dedicated time with you.
  • A place in a team with genuinely friendly and supportive colleagues.
  • Investment in your career goals: we invest so that your skills and interests are shared and developed.

It’s worth looking at our website: www.bhjs.co.uk and scrolling down the homepage to the short ‘Day In The Life of Barrow Hill’ film. It will help you decide.

Visits to the school are welcomed, at any point contact Audrey or Pierre on 02076415005 or email office@bhjs.co.uk. Please apply using the application form, job description and school information included in this advert as the school will be closed between 28/05/18 and 04/06/18.

Barrow Hill Junior School is committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people. The successful applicant must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

The closing date for applications is 7th of June 2018 at 2.00pm. We will contact you on receiving your application to arrange an opportunity to teach and an interview.

We have a clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service (formerly known as Criminal Records Bureau).
