Position Purpose

Provide practical support in the implementation of the Bishop’s Commission for Catholic Schools- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy, across a range of school settings.

This policy sets directions and aims to identify a complete educational pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, within the context of an inclusive framework that identifies student, family and school factors that contribute to educational and life outcomesThe Catholic School is more than an educational institution. It is a key part of the Catholic Church - an essential element in the Church's mission. The Teacher assists the Principal, to demonstrate strong support for the vision and ministry of the Catholic school.

Teachers are supported in their role to be able to provide quality teaching in a stimulating and challenging environment where everyone is valued. This position is responsible for all aspects of the planning, preparation and delivery of effective learning and teaching programs across the school.


Essential criteria

• Appropriate teaching qualifications and current NESA registration.

• Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy associated with K-6 teaching in a contemporary, collaborative learning space.

• Demonstrated skills in information and communication technologies.

• Demonstrated teaching skills, including working collaboratively with colleagues to create innovative experiences for all learners and a demonstrated capacity to team teach.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing relationships within the A.T.S.I student, parent/carer and the wider community

• Demonstrated high standard of competency and proficiency in classroom practice and student management.


Desirable criteria

• Meet the criteria and be willing to teach Religious Education in the Diocese of Armidale in accordance with Framework for the Accreditation of Staff in Catholic Schools.

With 550 students St Edward’s Primary is the largest Catholic Primary school in the Armidale Dioceses. The school divided into two campuses in the suburb of South Tamworth, New South Wales. The student population is highly diverse as it is made up of six different nationalities and includes fifty indigenous pupils.

The school was first opened in 1954 by Bishop Doody, and staffed by the Sisters of St Joseph. The second campus was later opened in 1970 when the creation of the Parish of South Tamworth increased enrolment in St Edward’s.

Facilities

St Edwards Primary is spread over two campuses, with Kindergarten through to Year 2 students in ‘infant campus’ and Years 3 through to 6 in ‘primary campus’. Both campuses have classrooms equipped with electronic smartboards and a computer lab with fifteen computers. 

The school also as two libraries, a dedicated visual arts room, netball courts and a multi-purpose centre with a large stage.

Curriculum

In addition to the usual Key Learning Areas for primary school’s set out by the New South Wales Board of Studies, St Edward’s Primary as a Religious Education programme that follows the ‘Celebrating Our Journey’ syllabus.

Throughout the year the school also offers sports activities to the children including swimming, cricket, softball, tennis, basketball, hockey, rugby league, touch football and athletics.
