Job overview

The Teacher Advisor Role

We are seeking to appoint up to three Teacher Advisors who are inspired by the opportunity and challenge offered by the UK’s first Big Picture Learning school. Specifically, we are seeking someone who is passionate about the potential of all young people to succeed regardless of prior learning histories or personal circumstances.

Teacher Advisors are more than simply teachers, although they need to be highly capable designers of learning (and thoroughly grounded in curriculum, assessment and safeguarding requirements of the English school system). Teacher Advisors will form deep relationships with young people and their families, supporting personal learning plans, acting as coach and advocate.

Each Teacher Advisor will be a true learner who enjoys the challenges of new approaches to pedagogy and education.  He/she will seek professional and personal growth as a part of a community committed to the success of all students; will take joy in immersion in new experiences and contexts; will thrive in an aspirational learning environment.

The School

Opening in January 2019 with a small intake of learners (increasing to 60 in year 2), Big Picture Doncaster will be the first school in the UK founded on the Big Picture Learning school design. The school, which will be independently funded, is actively supported by local partners, including Doncaster Council. The Principal and Lead Practitioner have been appointed.

Big Picture

Big Picture Learning has supported thousands of students in the US and Australia to succeed against  the odds.  It provides a radically different approach to schooling and learning, designed to combat disengagement and to inspire young people to develop their passions.  Deep relationships, family partnerships, community-based internships and personalized learning are features of the design.  More information: https://www.bigpiclearning.org.uk/news/
