About Lochgoilhead Primary School

About the school

Lochgoilhead Primary School is a small, non-denominational, co-educational school. It nestles, in an unrivalled situation, near the mouth of the River Goil, surrounded by the majestic Cowal hills. The school has a warm, welcoming, family atmosphere with a caring, understanding staff. We support all the children equally and encourage them to achieve their potential.

Lochgoilhead Primary School, with its large grass playing fields, is situated off the main road near the edge of the village. The high Argyllshire hills, which surround the village, give the school an unrivalled situation. The school, which is co-educational and non-denominational covers children from P1 to P7, approximately 5 years – 12 years old. The pupils due for transfer to secondary school generally go to Dunoon Grammar School. The school facilities and equipment are available to the community.

Present roll – 33 Planning capacity – 47

The working capacity of the school may vary dependent upon the number of pupils at each stage and the way in which the classes are organized.

The school is part of a co-operative called the South Cowal/Shore Co-operative. This is a group of small schools who work together to help provide the best education possible for their children. These schools are Sandbank, Toward, Innellan, Kilmodan, Lochgoilhead, Strachur, Strone and Tighnabruaich.
