Job overview

Job Description

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 30 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 13 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Brunbrae is a new school within a thriving suburb of Edinburgh. The school is set within a new housing community and is just a short drive from the bypass.
Bonnyrigg is a well established town with its own traditions, such as Gala days. It is also a popular residential area with excellent public transport links to the city centre. The new Borders rail link is due to open in 2016.

The school opened in November 2012 following the successful transition from the old site at Hopefield School. It was purpose built to meet the needs of a 21st Century education. The school includes a large nursery, 12 (11 at the moment) main stream classes and a Provision for children with ASD.

At Burnbrae Primary School we aim to develop a sense of belonging for staff, pupils and the community. The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos, adopting a nurturing approach. Children from the Provision regularly work alongside their peers in the mainstream classes. We celebrate the wider successes of our children and strive to deliver a child centred approach to learning and teaching.

There is throughout the school community a strong sense of team work and staff are given opportunities to lead developments from our School Improvement Plan. Staff regularly self evaluate, reflect and make action plans to drive forward improvement. The views of stakeholders are regularly sought and there is an active Parent Council. All children are consulted through our pupil focus groups and we also have a pupil learning council which works with other schools in our cluster to improve pupil voice within learning and teaching.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic professionals who have the vision and energy to sustain and promote the current standards of achievement and ensure the continued development and progress of the school.

Interviews for the above post will take place week commencing 16 May 2016
