Job overview

Could you unlock the learning potential of young people with social, emotional and mental health needs - and make a real and lasting difference to their future?    At Catch22, it's our belief that every young person has the capacity to learn, regardless of their individual life situation.

Our aim is to re-engage excluded, often marginalised young people in a nurturing environment so they can enjoy opportunities to progress into employment and further education.    Inspirational teaching will be a key element of our success, and that's where you enter the equation. Highly driven, and 100% dedicated to enabling the development of complex and vulnerable students aged 9-16, you'll create an environment in which expectations of achievement and progression are high.

Our curriculum is built around the national requirements to ensure learners can reintegrate back into the mainstream as soon as they're ready, at the same key stage as their peers.   While prioritising academic attainment, you'll also provide the behaviour management and therapeutic support to achieve these outcomes. It means focusing on the progression that each young person makes in terms of changes to their behaviour, their ability to engage in the community and their capacity to live an independent life through employment and further education.

You'll plan, deliver and manage specific subject-based learning programmes, using a range of strategies to meet learners' individual needs. At the same time, you'll establish a regular system of monitoring and assessment that will help them identify the progress they've made and set positive targets for improvement.

A QTS with a relevant degree, you'll be someone who can act as a role model to our students. While you must have a clear understanding of the National Curriculum, you'll additionally bring proven experience of working with young people who have complex needs and exhibit extreme behaviour. Ideally, your specialism will be Maths or English however there is flexibility with this for the right candidate. Motivated, well organised and a gifted communicator, you'll also be able to forge positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents, carers and other stakeholders.

Above all, however, you'll be passionate about achieving positive outcomes for pupils who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education.    For further details about this post please contact Graham Payne at graham.payne@catch22mat.co.uk

As a charity we are keen to reduce our costs and so encourage all applicants to apply online. However, if you are unable to for any reason, please email the contact person as detailed above for further assistance.
