Job overview

Early Years Teacher

Can you inspire & develop our young people?

Located near the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, on the edge of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, Underley Garden School is an independent specialist school rated Good with Outstanding features. Learning is at the heart of everything we do, and we offer specialist education to our small group of 50 pupils, aged 5 to 19, who have autistic spectrum conditions and learning difficulties. We believe that all our young people have the potential to learn and we are passionate about developing their capacity to live a fulfilling life.

About the role

To help enhance learning opportunities for our pupils, we now have an opportunity for an experienced Early Years Teacher to join our close-knit team.

Working with the Assistant Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in your class(es), ensuring the best opportunities for all. Our smaller class sizes mean you can focus on building a purposeful learning environment that meets individual educational needs, helping to narrow the gap for pupils who are behind where they should be.

You will be using your early years’ experience to develop our pupils who have fallen behind with their learning, but we believe, deserve every opportunity to flourish through specialist support.

Teachers at UGS are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment.

You will set a vision and targets for pupil success, and use your knowledge and expertise to monitor progress, give regular feedback and encourage our young people to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.

Who are we looking for?

Our pupils need engaging, creative, practical learning so we want Teachers who can thrive in a flexible curriculum structure and fully utilise our facilities to offer personalised programmes.

A Qualified Teacher with early years’ experience, you will be motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential. Whilst previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.Experience of continuous provision and experiential learning would also be of real interest.

We are looking for a Teacher who wants to spend less time on paperwork and more time developing creative learning opportunities for our inspirational young people with a range of complex learning and communication needs.

If you are looking to join a dedicated team in a school that will welcome your ideas, this could be a great opportunity for you.

If you would like to learn more before applying, please call Marie Lawson on 01524 271 569 to arrange a confidential conversation with our Principal. Closing date for applications, 19th May 2017, Interviews 24th & 25th May 2017.

We look forward to speaking with you.

Acorn Care and Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people in our care. Successful applicants will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
