Job overview

About the organisation

Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) is a learning community of over 140 schools within the Archdiocese of Brisbane, covering a geographical area that includes much of south-east Queensland.

Committed to high quality teaching and learning for more than 70,000 young people enrolled in our schools and colleges from Prep to Year 12, we inspire students with a love of learning and a heart of hope, empowering them to shape and enrich our world. Through our partnerships with parents, governments and the community, we provide social responsibility, self-discipline and Christian values for all our students and nurture and support the community in their faith journey.

About the role

We are seeking applications to form a pool of teachers who are experienced in working with students for whom English is an additional language / dialect. Successful applicants will be placed into part-time, fixed term opportunities throughout the Archdiocese of Brisbane, mainly within our secondary schools, but also at our primary and P-12 schools. Hours available will vary based on school needs and the willingness of applicants to travel to different schools.

Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese of Brisbane have a long-standing commitment to the provision of education that is inclusive of all students’ language, cultural and religious backgrounds. Students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds comprise a significant proportion of students currently enrolled in Catholic schools. For many of these students, English will be a second or additional language to their home language.

The vision for the Brisbane Catholic Education EAL/D program is to support the cognitive and academic development of EAL/D students through acquisition of English language knowledge and skills. The EAL/D program supports the implementation of programs designed to assist EAL/D students to acquire English language proficiency necessary to achieve learning outcomes at a level comparable to and consistent with their overall general ability.
