General:

To carry out the duties of a Forest School Teacher at the International School of London.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To plan, prepare and deliver Forest Schools lessons as required, liaising with class teachers to create curriculum links wherever possible.
  • To be responsible for setting up the activities and getting ready the equipment and materials needed.
  • To maintain the materials, tools and equipment in a suitable state.
  • To work effectively with and direct other adults involved in supporting Forest School lessons.
  • To prepare and abide by risk assessments related to Forest School activities and ensure other adults supporting Forest School are aware of and act on them.
  • To supervise and support pupils with all varying needs while delivering the lesson.
  • To encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in meaningful play and activities during Forest School lessons.
  •  To create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment.
  • To ensure that all lessons are well prepared.
  •  To monitor and record pupils’ responses and assess ongoing learning.
  • To be aware of and comply with all School Policies and Procedures.
  • To participate in training and other learning activities as required.
  • To advise the school on the necessary purchasing of any equipment, and to fill in the relevant order forms.
  • To attend relevant meetings as required.
  • To inform the class teacher, school office and Head of Primary of any serious injury especially head injuries.
  • To administer basic first aid as the need arises.
  •  To observe confidentiality at all times.
  • The ability to work well with other adults.

Skills and Qualifications

  •  An appropriate forest school qualification/training 
  • Up to date first aid qualification knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Forest School and its place in the primary curriculum experience.
  • Some previous experience of working in Forest School sessions.
  • Previous experience of leading Forest School sessions.
  • Previous experience working with primary aged children either in a paid or voluntary capacity.

  • A love of nature and outdoor life.
  • Happy to work in outside in all weathers.
  • A desire to improve your knowledge and experience of leading Forest School in a primary school setting.
  • An interest in working with children of all abilities.
  • Ability to support learning of children with special educational needs.

 

Care & Guidance

·        To be familiar with the School’s Child Protection Policy and to report concerns to the designated Child Protection Officer

·        To ensure all educational practices are in line with school’s health and safety procedures and policies.

Curriculum

An International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, they offer the Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years Programmes (MYP) as well as the IB Diploma.
