Facilities

With a specific focus on small classes with a high teacher to student ratio, Aspect Vern Barnett School ensures the delivery of optimum teaching and learning programs utilising high quality specialist resources, suitable to the needs of their autistic students. All nine satellite classes that operate out of the Forestville base conduct their teaching and learning structure in a similar manner within their varied physical environments. Students have access to outside/inside play areas, with a variety of equipment, including technology, trampolines, a library and in some cases swimming pools.

Curriculum

Each student’s access to the curriculum is made via an individual learning plan (ILP) developed in partnership with families, with student outcomes implemented at times individually, but at others in small groups or a whole school level. ASPECT’s core competency areas of communication skills, social skills, behaviour and sensory, are taught in conjunction with the NSW Board of Studies key learning areas. The school focuses on supporting students to develop functional skills to enhance transition and inclusion in less specialised settings.

School ethos

Aspect Vern Barnett School is a school community that is ‘passionate about people, about being positive and about being possible’. The school seeks to help students develop the skills to become as independent as possible, in order for them to succeed in the wider school community and life in general.
