JOB DESCRIPTIONS
DUTIES OF ALL TEACHERS:
“The duties of teachers shall be expressed in the Scheme of Conditions of Service and shall be:-
Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority to perform such tasks as the
headteacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the
following categories:-
a) to teach assigned classes;
b) to prepare lessons and courses;
c) to undertake development of the school curriculum;
d) to assess, record and report on the work of pupils;
e) to present pupils for and to participate in the conduct of national
examinations;
f) to undertake post-qualification training;
g) to contribute to the professional development of colleagues
including probationary and student teachers;
h) to participate in the administration and organisation of the
school;
I) to maintain good order and discipline among pupils and to
safeguard their health and safety;
j) to advise and guide pupils on issues related to their education;
k) to report and to discuss pupils’ progress with their parents and
any other bodies that have statutory functions relating to the
care of children.”

Inverness Royal Academy is a mixed, mainstream, secondary school in the Highland area of Scotland. It caters to students aged 11 to 18 and has approximately 998 pupils enrolled. It opened its new, modern, school building in 2016.

Inverness Royal Academy began as a grammar school and its history dates back as far as the 13th century – it was founded in 1792. The academy became a comprehensive in the mid-1970s.

The school’s motto is ‘Work and excellence’. Its core values are respect, compassion, responsibility, commitment and honesty. They aim to foster students who will bring positive change to society. It aims to provide a calm and positive learning environment as well as a stimulating, broad and balanced curriculum. The school wants every pupil to exceed expectations and to become self-confident, inquiring, tolerant and positive. 

The curriculum aims to develop its four capacities: confident individuals, effective contributors, responsible citizens and successful learners. The curriculum areas cover the expressive arts, health and well-being, languages, maths, R.E., science, social studies and technology.
