The Forensic Directorate, based in Hackney, provides multidisciplinary treatment for service users resident in East London who require forensic mental health services. We provide a comprehensive range of services, including medium secure, women’s, intensive care, specialist personality disorder, medium and low secure rehabilitation, learning disabilities and a community consultation and liaison service.

We are looking for a Teacher (ICT) to join our established Education Service. You will provide individual assessments and educational programmes for adult (18+) inpatient service users with a complex mental health problems. You will be able to specialise in ICT teaching up to Level 2, with embedded Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL as required. You will work alongside other therapy and clinical staff in meeting service user need. The Education Service comprises 4 staff and is an important part of a broader forensic therapies service. As well as providing core assessment and educational programmes, there are opportunities to develop your own professional development interests.

The post will be based at the John Howard Centre, an inpatient unit located in Homerton. The candidate for this post would ideally be a self-starter, able to set-up and develop new programmes under the guidance of the Education Lead.

The successful candidate will hold a PGCE (or equivalent) and valid SET membership, and have an understanding of the barriers to learning for people with enduring mental health needs. The post holder will have the chance to work closely with other disciplines and make a meaningful contribution to the lives of this service user group.
