The Langley Academy are looking to appoint a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf to lead their Hearing-Impaired Resource Base at the school. This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful secondary school which has an excellent reputation for meeting the needs of young people who are deaf within a mainstream setting.
The role involves responsibility for the organisation and the delivery of support for pupils who are deaf and the line management of the resource base team. The successful candidate will need to have the right skills and professional knowledge to support staff to improve outcomes for CYP who are deaf and they will build within the school staff through the delivery of training and high-quality direct specialist teaching, assessment, support and advice.
The school has a successful record of inclusion and has close links with the Berkshire Sensory Consortium (BSCS) who lead the peripatetic service within Berkshire.
The successful candidate will need to have a thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the ability to work operationally and strategically with the school leadership team and with other professionals in an ever changing educational and technological landscape.
We will consider suitably experienced teachers without the mandatory qualification who are interested in developing their specialist skills to work with pupils who are deaf. The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner who has recent classroom teaching experience and is willing to undertake the two-year specialist postgraduate qualification to train as a Teacher of the Deaf. The School in partnership with BSCS provide a mentorship programme for teachers in training.
