Job overview

Ref: 605/ TIC DSP

Plumstead Manor is a thriving girls’ school of 1500 students in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, with 300 students in a mixed Sixth Form. Our focus as a school is to make sure our students are happy, well-disciplined and confident, at the same time as being stretched and challenged so that they excel and thrive in their future lives. High quality teaching, in a safe and friendly environment is the key to unlocking the potential that we believe all our young people have. We blend an emphasis on academic scholarship, alongside our expectations for strong discipline, excellent behaviour and a relentless focus on the personal, social and emotional development of every child. This embodies our commitment to seeing all our students flourish and succeed, as we want every door to be open to them in their future lives.

The DSP is a special provision within our inclusion offer which caters for students who have EHCPs and with a named moderate learning difficulty. The approach taken in the DSP is a holistic one, based on an inclusive approach, which sees the students in the provision catered for in a personalised way, at the same time as including them in the full life of the wider school. We firmly believe that it is our role to see our young people become independent in their later lives, and that is the goal of the DSP. We are therefore seeking an outstanding teacher to lead the DSP under the guidance of our SENCO.

You will lead and promote a culture of high expectation in both behaviour and achievement. You will design and implement a tailored curriculum which will meet the needs of the DSP learners and you will be able to monitor and analyse assessment data and to implement ‘early help’ interventions to boost and accelerate the progress of individual students. This role will include leading a team of staff (both teaching and support) and developing colleagues through encouragement, performance management and the provision of opportunity.

You will need to:

  • be familiar with best practice in teaching students with specific learning and special educational needs.
  •  have experience of teaching students with specific learning and special educational needs in a secondary school setting.
  • have experience of leading a team
  • be able to liaise with a range of staff across the school, and to disseminate best practice to them.
  • be able to maintain accurate and confidential documentation.
  • build good links with other schools and outside agencies.
  • have a good degree, evidence of further study and QTS

We can offer you:

  • dedicated and supportive colleagues
  • excellent professional development and guidance
  • a whole school commitment to excellence and justice in a successful and harmonious community.

About Plumstead Manor School

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and popular secondary school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. There has been a school on our site since 1913, with the first 105 years as a girls’ school. In response to local demand we admitted our first mixed cohort in 2018 and gradually move to being fully co-educational by 2022.

We are a large, inclusive, comprehensive school and have capacity for 1,500 students aged 11-18. We have our own Sixth Form of around 300 students and welcome students from our own cohort as well as students from within the local area. Our students progress onto the full range of future pathways, including medicine and veterinary science courses at the most competitive universities and high-quality apprenticeships.
