Who we are:
We are a dynamic, diverse and dedicated department, that encompasses drama and dance under the umbrella Expressive Arts, with a positive culture of engagement from students at all levels. All students participate in drama and dance in timetabled lessons and outside of these with after-school clubs and extra-curricular dance being extremely popular. Students on examined courses study Drama GCSE with a focus on acting and BTEC Performing Arts with either a focus on acting or dance. Our track record of numbers of students entering the theatre or performance industry to work is very high.
The Academy presents performances throughout the year, and at least once per year a large scale whole school production takes place that brings together the disciplines of acting and dance but also brings in cross-curricular links with music, art and design.
The dance and drama facilities are the envy of many schools, the Academy benefits from; a black box theatre equipped with IT, mirrored wall, lighting and air conditioning, black box style classrooms also equipped with lighting curtains and IT, there is also a fully sprung, mirrored and air conditioned dance studio.
Southfields Academy is a thriving non-selective secondary academy located in south west London. It has recently undergone complete redevelopment and benefits from the cutting edge in art, design & vocational technology facilities, spacious and bright communal areas and classrooms. All of which are equipped with the latest technology and designed by our staff and students to ensure their fitness for purpose to educate the children of today and future-proofed for the children of tomorrow.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a motivated and inspiring Teacher in charge of Drama to enthuse and engage students across the age and ability range of Years 7 – 13 and to act as a positive role model and champion for the expressive and creative arts. The ideal candidate will be able to use creativity to develop rich and exciting lessons in a broad range of styles and disciplines. They will be ambitious and adaptable, with excellent planning and classroom management skills. Experience in the theatre, performance or creative industries are an advantage.
The department are hardworking and fiercely passionate about both dance and drama. The ideal candidate will feel very strongly about the subjects’ place in the curriculum and so will be dedicated to maintaining the high standards of performance and assessment outcomes and will put every effort into maintaining this work ethic.
