Job overview

Want to make life changing differences to young people’s futures?

Have a thirst to turbo charge your career in teaching maths?

Believe that teaching numeracy can be engaging and exciting?

Keen to join a team that consistently achieves beyond national standards?

The Foundation Maths team at Exeter College is dedicated to delivering an experience of maths teaching that prioritises difference, engagement, and confidence; supported by nationally recognised and award winning CPD and a development package that encourages new and exciting approaches. We change the lives and fortunes of young people who have one more chance to achieve their target grade in maths before they leave compulsory education.

Are you ready for the challenge? Is your maths teaching ready for a turbo boost?

The Foundation Maths team teaches maths to post-16 learners who did not achieve a national benchmark in secondary school. We focus on teaching learners to overcome their barriers to maths learning, employing cutting edge pedagogy developed from years of experience and support from external training providers and CPD events that we deliver, to unlock learners’ full potential. Members of the team have found their teaching roles provide both a place to develop core teaching skills, and offered exciting opportunities for career progression.

We have an exciting opportunity for a teacher to join this innovative and creative team to deliver our maths curricula. You will join a team of specialist teachers who are dedicated to transforming the experience of our learners in the maths classroom. You will demonstrate an unmatched drive to teach learners in mastering numeracy skills and understanding, while managing effective and inspiring learning in the classroom. You will have a passion for engaging and motivating learners who may have previously found maths a struggle. You will also be a strong communicator and relate effectively to young people.

In return, you will gain a chance to sharpen your professional skills with learners who provide undistilled experiences in maths learning. Some of these learners need support to achieve higher grades to access university, while others need support developing basic numeracy skills. To help our quest, our classes are smaller than those in schools while our teachers are supported by a College that was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2022. The challenge is unique, the impact is undeniable, the rewards are unprecedented.

A teacher in Foundation Maths will be expected to contribute to areas of our curriculum development and teaching approach within the team. Guided by an experienced Head of Foundation Maths and English, and a CAM for Foundation Maths, a successful candidate will be supported to contribute fully to our continuing excellence.

Applications from teachers new to the profession are just as welcome as those from experienced teachers, we will be seeking to appoint a teacher with the greatest ability, enthusiasm and commitment to our ethos in the team.
