The Team

The Science & Access Team are very proud to support Northampton College’s culture of high standards, an inclusive working and learning environment, and a professional committed workforce who are focused on supporting our students to achieve the best they possibly can.

The team comprises of eight experienced teachers many of whom come from an industrial as well as teaching backgrounds and who teach across the range of courses and levels offered (Level 1 to 3 Connect & Access courses). We are a friendly, adaptable, and motivated team who work flexibly and closely together to achieve excellence in both our colleagues and our students.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to plan, teach and coordinate courses in the Science department.  A specialism in biochemistry is preferable as you will be expected to teach both biology and chemistry up to level 3 so the ability to teach several areas of science will be advantageous. You will be expected to contribute to all levels within science (Level 1-Level 3, Connect & Access) and contribute to their continued development

A large proportion of the role will involve teaching mature students who wish to progress on to university, so being adaptable to the different teaching requirements will be beneficial. This is a post open to candidates with experience of teaching up to Level 3 and who are seeking a position of responsibility within the science department and can show that they have the necessary skills to carry out the management of such a role.

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, abilities and qualities will include:

• Experienced teacher in biology/chemistry to level 3

• A relevant qualification at degree level or an equivalent qualification in a vocational area.

• Experience of course leadership or coordination of study programmes

• Ability to work across all science programmes and levels

Northampton College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college situated in Northamptonshire. It is a 16-plus institution with three campuses: a major building at its main Northampton site, a smaller campus near the town centre and another 20 miles away in Daventry. It provides places for around 9,000 students aged 16 and over, most of whom are full-time and aged 16-18.

Northampton College was opened in 1973. It merged with Daventry Tertiary College to expand its Daventry campus in August 2004, and its Booth Lane campus reopened after a large redevelopment in 2012.
