Job overview

Be the Teacher you always wanted to be

Crookhey Hall School is located south of Cockerham, near Lancaster and has the capacity to educate 74 boys and girls (10-17 years). The pupils all have statements identifying social, emotional and mental health difficulties and are drawn from towns and cities in the surrounding region. We need really great, passionate people to be part of our team to carry out immeasurably worthwhile work that truly does change lives.

Crookhey Hall School is part of Acorn Care and Education, the second largest private sector provider of special needs education in the country operating 18 schools for children and young people who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism.

About the role

As part of our continued growth, we now have an opportunity for an experienced Teacher to join our close-knit team.

Working with the Deputy Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in your classes ensuring the best opportunities for all. Our smaller class sizes mean you can focus on building a purposeful learning environment that meets individual educational needs of pupils, helping to narrow the gap for pupils who are behind where they should be.

Teachers at Crookhey are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment.

You will set a vision and targets for pupil success, and use your knowledge and expertise to monitor progress, give regular feedback and encouraging our young people to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.

Who are we looking for?

No two days are the same at Crookhey so we want Teachers who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and are motivated by working with children with complex needs.

We are looking for a Teacher, who can design, plan and deliver an innovative curriculum, you will be motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential. Whilst previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

We are looking for a Teacher who wants to spend less time on paperwork and more time developing creative learning opportunities for the most reluctant and troubles learners.

If you are looking to join a dedicated team in a school that will welcome your ideas, we want to hear from you.

Acorn Care and Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people in our care. Successful applicants will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
