Job overview

“An outstanding school with an outstanding Sixth Form”  Ofsted

We are looking to appoint a dedicated teacher for Maths with responsibility for Core Maths at this high performing school with a strong Sixth Form from January 2018.

Core Maths is a relatively new Level 3, Post-16 qualification. The Herts & Essex School was part of the early teaching programme for Core Maths and has successfully delivered the qualification since 2014. The current Core Maths lead has supported the implementation of Core Maths across schools and colleges in both Hertfordshire and Essex. This has included support and guidance to schools who are planning to introduce Core Maths, as well as delivering CPD to staff teaching Core Maths for the first time. There has been ongoing support to all schools with regards to training, resources and schemes of work. It would be advantageous if the applicant has taught Core Maths and been part of implementing it within their existing school. The role would involve maintaining and developing Core Maths within the Matrix Maths Hub and the successful candidate would need to be committed to travel to support this role.

Herts & Essex provides a vibrant, welcoming and supportive working environment in a popular, non-selective school with an excellent academic record.  Our students are a delight to work with: they are motivated and enthusiastic and their behaviour is excellent.  Maths is a popular choice for students at A Level.

Herts & Essex is in Bishop’s Stortford which has fast and easy road and rail access to Cambridge and London, as well as having Stansted Airport on the doorstep.

Focused on delivering Excellence for All, Herts & Essex is a Maths Hub, Science Learning Partnership and a Teaching School providing a first-rate educational experience for students, and a first-rate experience for staff looking for rapid career development.  Herts & Essex can offer the successful candidate:

  • significant opportunities for professional development
  • the chance to work with exceptionally committed colleagues who have high expectations of students
  • membership of the Maths Faculty, whose specialist teachers have great team spirit and an immense enthusiasm for their subjects and their teaching
  • a large and vibrant mixed Sixth Form
  • supportive parents

Further details about the school (including Herts & Essex pay scales in the Pay Policy) are available on our website or from the school.  We look forward to receiving your application by midday Monday 16th October 2017.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment.  Full employment checks and an enhanced DBS disclosure are required for all posts.
