Position Information 

Merewether High School is an academically selective high school located in Newcastle. Core values of Integrity, diversity and excellence underpin a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to drive academic achievement. The school caters for 1078 students from a wide geographical area, including 20 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. High expectations of all students are maintained, consistent with each student’s ability to ensure students achieve their personal best. Students are encouraged to participate in leadership, creative and performing arts programs and sporting pursuits, along with a range of extra-curricular activities.

The experienced staff support the learning and wellbeing needs of our high potential and gifted students. Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach Music 7-12, approval to teach and/or willingness to teach Music extensions 1 and 2, Visual Arts and skills/experience in Orchestra and Band.

 

Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a high performing CAPA faculty and the ability to value add to faculty initiatives.

 

Outline your capacity and willingness to inspire, engage and provide challenging teaching and learning opportunities to high potential and gifted students.

 

Demonstrated capacity to implement innovative teaching strategies that cater for a diverse range and abilities of CAPA students.

 

Expertise and willingness to effectively lead, support and promote student participation in extracurricular CAPA programs.

 

Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills to build positive, collaborative relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community.

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
