Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College provides a safe, rigorous and challenging learning environment for pupils of all abilities and backgrounds. Our expectations are high in terms of pupil progress and achievement, and behaviour. In February 2014 we received our fourth consecutive Ofsted grade of ‘Outstanding’. We are looking to appoint an equally outstanding practitioner to join our well-established staff.
The role
We are seeking an outstanding practitioner who supports the college’s aims and academic ethos, can demonstrate the ability to bridge gaps in academic standards, and maximise the achievement of all students in A Level Psychology.
This is a part-time role, but there is the option of a full-time post for a candidate who can offer another subject, such as Sociology or Science.
Key responsibilities and objectives of the job:
- To teach Psychology at post-16
- Motivation of all learners, from the most able to the hard-to-reach
- To work within and contribute to established College and department frameworks for lesson planning, delivery and evaluation
- To remain informed of current developments in the subject area, to participate in INSET and to initiate change where appropriate
- To devise innovative, challenging schemes of work
- To consistently plan and deliver outstanding lessons, ensuring that a variety of teaching resources are utilised
- To ensure that students’ work is marked regularly and conscientiously, in accordance with the College marking policy
- To set and mark internal examinations and tests as required
- To demonstrate good knowledge of a wide range of teaching methods and to implement these in the classroom
- To be fully committed to and actively contribute to the College’s house and enrichment activities programme
- To possess excellent ICT skills and use these as a core tool in the teaching of Sociology and Psychology and in the monitoring of student progress
- To provide accurate information for parents as directed by the College and department policy and to attend parents’ evenings and other presentation meetings as directed
- To work within the academy framework with regard to Health and Safety.

Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College is a mainstream, co-educational, all-through school for children aged 3-18, situated in Lewisham, south-east London. This specialist music and ICT college has been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted. There are 1,800 pupils at the school.
Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College is an academy governed by Haberdashers' Aske’s Educational Trust. It is the lead school of the trust’s federation, incorporating two other local academies.

“By the time pupils join Year 7, standards in reading, writing and mathematics are above average. The proportion of pupils making and exceeding the expected levels of progress is also much higher than found nationally. The proportion of pupils attaining higher than expected levels is also rising.”
“Students make exceptional progress in Key Stages 3 and 4. For each of the last five years, the proportion of students gaining five A* to C passes, including English and mathematics, has been well above the national average. A recent relative weakness in science has been tackled effectively and, this year, the proportion of students gaining A* to C passes in all subjects is on course to be well above average. The college no longer makes early entries to GCSE examinations.”
