The BOA Group is a Multi-Academy Trust of specialist academies located in Birmingham city centre, in the hub of the creative and digital industries. Though based in Birmingham, the academies recruit from across the wider Midlands region. The BOA Group has grown from our first school, Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA). We now have 3 purpose-built academies as well as a fully operational Edwardian theatre (The Old Rep, Birmingham) within the portfolio.

BOA Stage and Screen Production Academy is a unique, industry-led training academy for 16–19-year-olds, that prepares young people to enter behind-the-scenes roles in the regional Stage and Screen industries. By blending high quality learning with industry-led projects and work-based training, BOA Stage & Screen Production prepares students for a career in film, TV, content, live events, theatre production, and associated fields within the arts and entertainment industry.

Our curriculum is designed to address the needs of the industry, and as a result students work regularly on major outward facing projects with partners such as the BBC, Threewise Entertainment, PRG, Screenskills, the Old Rep Theatre, The REP, the RSC, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Mission Accomplished, and many others.

Students choose from four, full-time pathways:

o       Broadcast, Film, Content

o       Writing, Directing, Screen-craft

o       Production Arts and Stage Management

o       Technical Theatre and Live Events

Each pathway is underpinned by one or more level 3 BTEC qualifications (worth the equivalent of 3 A'Levels), and includes a professional development programme, industry qualifications, and work placements. Some students also opt to study an additional academic qualification (A’level or GCSE).

We are seeking to appoint a confident and enthusiastic Teacher of Acting and Screenwriting to plan, prepare and deliver outstanding lessons on our Writing, Directing and Screen-craft pathway.

The role is suitable to either an ECT, experienced teacher or experienced industry professional. A full induction package and CPD opportunities are offered to help develop your teaching practice.

We are looking for someone who has:

·        The ability to plan, teach and facilitate lessons in acting and screenwriting.

·        Advanced performance and writing skills.

·        Knowledge of the broadcast and theatre industry, sectors, job roles and interrelations.

  • The ability to inspire high achievement in students from all backgrounds.
  • The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage projects.
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to guide students’ academic, personal, and professional development, as a tutor, in accordance with the academy’s guidelines and procedures.
  • Presence, enthusiasm, good sense of humour and approachability.
  • An excellent record of punctuality.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world class academy. If you share the academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families, and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 23rd April 2023

Interviews: Wednesday 10th May 2023
