Harrow International School Shanghai is looking to appoint a creative and inspiring middle school specialist teacher of Art and Design. The appointed teacher will be expected to consistently demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, and the development of the ‘whole student.’ The appointed teacher should be able to work independently and collaboratively in the Prep and Senior School. The Prep is a discrete phase designed to support students in their transition from the primary approach in the Lower School and the secondary approach in the Senior School. The core responsibility of the appointed teacher will be to teach Art and Design in Years 6-10 and higher year groups as the school grows.

As there is a strong emphasis on activities outside the classroom there is also an expectation that all teachers make an effective and varied contribution to the extra-curricular programme.

All Prep and Senior School teachers are offered two-year renewable contracts and a highly competitive compensation package, including accommodation and full medical insurance for employees and their dependents.

Requirements

Suitable candidates will have:

  1. The ability to inspire others and lead by example, role modelling the School’s vision statement Leadership for a better world in relationships with students, teachers and parents.
  2. Appropriate academic degree and teaching qualification.
  3. The ability and commitment to be outstanding classroom teachers in the required age group, usually with a minimum teaching experience of three years.
  4. A strong commitment to student progress.
  5. A genuine commitment to the wellbeing and pastoral care of children.
  6. Interests and abilities that can enhance the School’s extra-curricular programme.
  7. Excellent inter-personal skills with students, teachers and parents.
  8. Excellent administrative, organisational, and ICT skills.

Harrow International School Shanghai
Harrow International School Shanghai will open in August 2016. It will be the fourth school in the Harrow family of schools providing a British independent style of education in the Asia region. In the first year the school will open from Early Years to Year 10. The school is located in a modern custom-built facility which accurately reflects the modern, cosmopolitan city of Shanghai. The School combines elements of educational philosophy, practice and traditions from Harrow School in London with the international mindedness of a diverse student body in Shanghai. The school will ultimately provide education from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 13 and from the academic year 2017-18 will offer boarding for students from Year 6 and above.

Harrow School Shanghai is a co-educational day school for students aged from 18 months to 18 years. The teaching is based upon the EYFS Framework and the English National Curriculum, culminating in IGCSEs for Removes and Fifth Form (Years 10 and 11), and A levels within the Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13).
