Job overview

The Milton Keynes Academy (MKA) is an Academy with strong links in the community. Our Academy is underpinned by an ethos based on ‘raising aspirations, raising achievement and providing opportunities,’ so that we realise our mission of ‘Everyone Achieves.’

We are a rapidly improving Academy (Ofsted judgement Good with Outstanding Leadership and Management April 2014). We cater for 1400 students aged 11-19. Our aim is to maximise the potential of all our learners and be heart of the community.

The Art & Design department is housed in a ‘specialist village for Art & Design’ where all classrooms have an Interactive White Board, desktop computer and a visualiser enabling you to deliver engaging lessons. Outside of the classrooms we have a computer suite that can also be utilised. The working environment is excellent and innovative in design with very well resourced work areas. Student success and displays of work are prominent. Furthermore, you will benefit from a highly organised curriculum plan where all lessons are planned and stored on the Academy's online curriculum, Moodle.

You will be stepping into a department of 10 teachers with a range of skills and abilities, managed by a Head of Art & Design who is supported by a Deputy. From the moment you join us you will feel welcomed and supported by an experienced and varied team. As part of your induction into the Academy and the Art & Design department you will be assigned a mentor who will support and guide you through your early days.

We currently offer Level 2 and level 3 courses in both GCSE and BTEC formats.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed designer and maker, holding Qualified Teacher Status to join the team. The ability to work across a variety of disciplines within Art & Design Technology would be desirable, but any specialism will be considered. Additionally an ability to teach English as a second subject would be desirable, NQTs are welcome to apply.

As a member of the Milton Keynes Academy teaching team you will be well supported – by the senior leadership team who are focussed on teaching and learning; by a support staff team who assist you as a teacher in the classroom and in lessons to make outstanding progress and by a comprehensive programme of induction and training to ensure your individual needs are met and that you fulfil your potential as a teacher.
