Contract term: Permanent

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic individual to join our successful and expanding Art department. The department currently includes three full-time specialists and we also benefit from having a full-time technician.

We are seeking to appoint a further teacher as a result of the introduction of Photography GCSE.

At Key Stage 4 we follow the Edexcel Fine Art syllabus.   There are currently four groups of GCSE students in each year group. There is an emphasis on drawing and painting which is supported by work in sculpture, ceramics, printing and mixed-media. In September 2018 we introduced Photography GCSE.

In the Sixth Form we follow the AQA A level syllabus for both Fine Art and Photography.

Standards at all levels are very high both in raw score and value added terms.  Over the last three years 91% of students achieved an A* - C / 4+ in their GCSE Art.  In 2018 48% of GCSE Art students achieved grade 7 or above and overall our results were in the top 8% for progress nationally.

40% of A level Art students achieved an A* grade (national 15%) and 94% of A Level Photography students achieved A* - C (national 81%).

These results are indicative of the extremely high quality of teaching and learning in the department.

The department is well resourced with three specialist Art rooms with data projectors, a Sixth Form work room, a Photography computer suite and a darkroom with 10 enlargers.

Our Sixth Formers hold a very successful and popular exhibition of Fine Art and Photography in the summer, which is attended by a large number of visitors.

We run trips annually to London for both Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form groups, visiting Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Perry Green and any other galleries with particularly inspiring exhibitions at the time. Our Sixth Formers visit The Turner Prize and other relevant exhibitions. The department has run a number of trips abroad.

Art is very well established at Freman, and is one of the most popular options at KS4 and KS5. This reflects the department’s commitment to high standards. We would expect the successful candidate to take an active role in the on-going development of the department and the wider college. This is a great opportunity to join a very successful department, which is continuing to expand and improve.
