Job overview

Teacher of Art  (Maternity Cover)

Gresham’s School is situated in the Georgian town of Holt and sits within 200 acres of glorious countryside. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with the Norfolk Broads and the North Norfolk Coast just a few miles away. At Gresham’s we offer a rare opportunity where children can join us at our Nursery and Pre-Prep School from the age of 2 and continue with their education at our Prep and Senior Schools up to the age of 18.

We are now looking for an outstanding individual to teach Art throughout the Senior School. Gresham’s Art Department is committed to teaching the subject from an unashamedly contemporary context and it is vital that the successful applicant shares this ethos and embraces the challenges this presents. We offer Fine Art, Graphics, 3D Design and Photography and across all endorsements our aim is to encourage in students, a risk taking approach where technical ability is matched by a strong conceptual understanding.

Our excellent facilities provide a wealth of opportunities and although the successful applicant would not be expected to have experience across all disciplines offered, they must by naturally inquisitive and unafraid to try unfamiliar processes. We would encourage all applicants to look at the Art section of the school website to gain a greater understanding of the breadth with which we teach the subject.

The School has both boarding and day pupils and runs an extended school day and a vast range of sporting and extra-curricular opportunities. All our academic staff are expected to embrace the co-curricular life at Gresham’s, whether you love sport, drama or enjoy working on projects with the local community, we have more than enough to keep you busy.

About Gresham's School

Gresham’s is a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 2-18. It is situated in the Georgian town of Holt in beautiful countryside, just three miles from the breathtaking North Norfolk coast.

The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham who forged close ties with The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. On his death, he left the school in their care and strong links with them and the City of London remain to this day.

The school enjoys a generous campus with excellent facilities including a state-of-the-art music building (Britten) with its own recording studio, indoor and outdoor performance spaces including a theatre (Auden), multi-surface sports pitches, tennis courts, swimming pool, sports hall and shooting range. The Dyson Building opened at Gresham’s in September 2021. Sir James Dyson, a former pupil at the school, enabled the innovative new centre for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education.

The school has an impressive list of Old Greshamians including the composer Benjamin Britten, the poet WH Auden, Oscar winning actress Olivia Colman and international rugby players Tom and Ben Youngs, to name but a few.
