We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join the Art Department of Francis Holland, Regent’s Park from September 2020. 

Art is a highly respected and popular subject within the school and girls achieve impressive results at GCSE and A level. Many girls progress to further education in Art at leading colleges of Art and universities. The Art Department comprises the Head of Department and three other teachers, two of whom are part-time. There are also two part-time Art technicians who ensure the department has technical assistance five days a week. The department makes excellent use of London galleries and museums and has organised trips abroad to various cities in recent years. There are a number of extra-curricular activities based in the Art department. All staff are involved in clubs and life drawing sessions for examination classes in addition to normal teaching.

The successful candidate is likely to:

  • Be an experienced and enthusiastic subject specialist with excellent contextual knowledge to confidently teach to A Level and beyond
  • Be a confident classroom teacher of Art with high expectations of learning and behaviour
  • Have a good honours degree in Art (2:1 or above)
  • Keep fully informed of current educational initiatives especially those relating to Art
  • Assist with extra-curricular activities such as Life Drawing classes after school
  • Be willing to lead extra-curricular clubs and trips, especially those involving Art
  • Be an expert in the use of ICT and use ICT confidently to enhance classroom teaching
  • Be willing to play an active role in all aspects school life, both pastoral and academic 
  • Liaise and assist with school activities as required

Candidates short-listed will be asked to bring a digital Art Portfolio to interview which should include examples of their own work as well as student work. All candidates will be required to teach a lesson.

Francis Holland School, Regent’s Park, is a leading independent school, for girls aged from 11-18, located in Marylebone, central London. There are currently over 550 pupils on roll. Francis Holland is in the top 30 independent schools in London for GCSE and A Level grades.

Francis Holland School was founded in 1878 by the Reverend Canon Francis Holland. It was originally opened in Baker Street, where it remained until 1915, before relocating to a new purpose-built site near Clarence Gate. The School has since expanded to include a Classics Centre and a Seminar Room, both on Ivor Place and a state of the art Sixth Form Centre, Linhope House.
