Job overview

The Elton High School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well qualified Teacher of Art/Photography (ability to teach Art Textiles may also be an advantage). The successful applicant will join a strong and supportive department that is dedicated to raising the achievement and progress of all students.

The Elton High School is a significantly oversubscribed School with a tradition of excellence. We have a history of high achievement and our most recent Year 11 results (2016) had headline figures of 65% (5 A*-C incl E/M), with average Attainment8 of 5.4 and overall Progress8 figure of 0.28. These figures placed us amongst the top proportion of schools in the country.

The school leadership team was restructured for September 2016 and staff and students are enthused about this exhilarating period in our school’s development. We have now moved into a brand new school building – the first new secondary school building in Bury for many decades, which further reinforces the excitement surrounding our school community.

The recent Ofsted inspection (February 2017) was a fair and accurate analysis of the fantastic progress made by the school in recent months. We knew that the 2016 GCSE results placed us in the top proportion of schools in the country, but it was so encouraging to see Ofsted recognise these achievements in their recent report. The inspection team noted that there is "a culture of high expectations" across the school with "high quality training" enabling teachers to provide top quality lessons as a matter of routine, with staff "focused on improving outcomes for all pupils". The inspectors were particularly impressed with the climate for learning and behaviour of our students, describing Elton as "an orderly and calm place to learn" with students who "enjoy coming to school", are "proud of their school" and are "confident in their learning".

The progress that has been made across the school is not through chance or by accident, but is due to a relentless focus on teaching and learning, while developing the talents of an outstanding team of staff. We are not complacent and look forward to continuing to work together so that Elton can fully realise its potential as one of the very best schools in Greater Manchester.

The school has excellent transport links with the M60, M61, M62 and M66 Motorways crisscrossing the area plus the Metrolink Light Rapid Transit system with a fast and frequent service from Bury centre through Manchester city centre to East Didsbury.

Employees of The Elton High School have a responsibility for, and must be committed to, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and for ensuring that they are protected from harm.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Please visit our website www.eltonhigh.bury.sch.uk or contact the school on 0161 763 1434 for an application pack.

Closing date: 10.00am on Friday 21st April 2017.
