Job overview

Chiswick School is an 11 - 19 mixed stand alone academy of approx. 1600 pupils including a large, successful 6th Form. At the beginning of February 2020 OFSTED determined: "This is a good school" with outstanding features. Since then the school has continued to be innovative and focused on getting the best outcomes for all. The school is oversubscribed. In 2023 results for GCSE and A Levels were contrary to national trend - we were delighted for our students.

Our Visual Arts department is a highly creative and engaging space where we strive to instil an enthusiasm for arts at the heart of our thought-provoking curriculum. We are looking for a candidate who is willing to contribute to its development by working collaboratively to challenge our students to reach their full potential. Art is a popular subject, with our students achieving impressive results and many progressing to leading Art universities.

We have outstanding specialist facilities including two kilns and a printing press, where our students can explore a variety of creative processes. Within easy reach of London galleries and museums, the department organises regular trips and workshops, in addition to being actively engaged in community outreach projects.

Our staff are supported through an extensive teacher development programme supporting teaching practice and pedagogy whatever stage of their career. We pride ourselves in being a supportive and flexible employer.

If you are interested please apply asap as we will interview any suitable strong candidate asap during this application process. If you have any queries please contact Andrea Ramsay, Director of HR, ara@chiswickschool.org or 0208 747 6659.

This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Internet Search check as well as all other statutory safeguarding checks. Chiswick School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Chiswick School is a mixed 11-18 school that is truly comprehensive in its nature.

Our vision is that we do whatever it takes to ensure every student achieves their full potential. Over the last year we have made rapid progress in our classrooms and we are delighted that Ofsted has recognised how far we have come. Over the next four years we are aiming to become one of the finest schools in London providing students with exceptional opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Chiswick School is full of adults who care deeply about children and we pride ourselves on the positive relationships we build with students. We are a family which includes parents and carers, teachers, other school staff and the community; with the child placed firmly at the centre of all that we do and the decisions that we take.

Our teaching and support colleagues are our most valuable resource and we work hard to provide a balanced and enjoyable working environment.  A new Wellbeing Strategy is being implemented to enhance what we are already doing to support our staff.

"Staff praise leaders for the improvements that have been made. They said that leaders take their workload and well-being seriously. Staff morale is high. They are committed to playing their part in the continued improvement of the school."  - Ofsted, January 2020

Laura Ellener
Headteacher
