Job overview

Island School is looking to appoint a full time Teacher of Art (with TLR3 as Head of Department) to start August 2021. The teacher with the experience of teaching IGCSE and IB would be advantageous. 


Island School is a highly successful IB school school located in the heart of Hong Kong. 1200 students aged 11 to 18 study our innovative and exciting curriculum combining our own self designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, IB Diploma and BTEC programs. Currently based in temporary facilities in Sha Tin until September 2022 we will be returning to a brand new campus on Borrett Road designed to suit our curriculum. Here, facilities will include a world class sports centre, maker spaces, open classrooms and a black box theatre.


 


The art department is a very successful member of the creative arts faculty. All students study art in Y7 & 8 within the MYP framework before moving to a very popular optional subject in year 9, or our Elements program - mixed age skills based courses that are designed by the school. In year 10 & 11 students have the option of taking art at IGCSE and then the IBDP and BTEC courses run in year 12 & 13. 


As the head of department the successful candidate will oversea the running and development of the subject, working with a team of 3 to develop the course. 


The successful candidate will have:


A relevant Bachelor degree and postgraduate teaching qualification in a related Art & Design area


2+ years teaching experience 


Excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team within an expanding department


The ability to realize the potential of students of all learning needs


The desire to embrace faculty wide professional development and alternative curriculum models in Art & Design


A commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school
