Job overview

12 month maternity cover, full time

As Teacher of Biology at the RGS you would be joining a team of eight biologists in a well-resourced department. Our boys “display excellent attitudes to their learning” and there is a “high degree of mutual respect between pupils and teachers” (ISI Inspection Report 2022).

You would be teaching boys from the First Form (Year 7) through to A-level where Biology is a popular option with 60-70 boys taking the subject in the Sixth Form.

We are looking for a biology enthusiast to join us in September 2024 and inspire our boys who “display excellent attitudes to their learning” and demonstrate a “high degree of mutual respect between pupils and teachers” (ISI Inspection Report 2022). We particularly welcome applications from candidates with multi-disciplinary experience and the confidence to teach more than one subject.

This post will suit a new entrant to the profession or an experienced teacher. Salary is dependent on experience, well above the national scale and compares favourably with others in the independent sector.

Other benefits include:

  • Private medical scheme
  • Generous relocation package for those living outside the area
  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme
  • Use of on-site gym (at certain times of day)
  • Fee reduction for son(s) of staff (after a qualifying period and subject to entrance exam)

The Royal Grammar School has a responsibility for and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The person appointed to this post will be required to apply for an enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the DBS.
