An exciting opportunity has arisen at Derby High School for an enthusiastic, innovative and creative teacher of Biology. This is a temporary role for one and a half term, starting after February half term. For the right candidate there is an opportunity for this role to be permanent.

Biology is a compulsory subject for all pupils from Years 7 to 9 and is then an optional subject for GCSE and A level. The department follows the AQA syllabus at GCSE and A level. There are two other teachers in the department. Examination results in recent years have been very good and the subject enjoys an excellent reputation amongst pupils. The successful candidate will also become involved in our departmental activities outside the classroom along with a willingness to offer support to other aspects of the extra-curricular life of the school. Biology is a popular subject at GCSE and A level, which is taught in a dedicated laboratory.

This post would suit a well-qualified teacher looking for a new challenge or a dynamic NQT wishing to start their career in an excellent school.

Derby High School is a happy and vibrant place to work: our students are highly motivated and ambitious, supportive yet self-aware. You will be joining a department where the passion for learning is evident both in its results and student and staff engagement.

You will be

•            an inspirational teacher of biology, who believes in high aspirations for all students

•            passionate about innovative learning and teaching

•            a dynamic, forward-thinking individual

•            committed to student success

•            highly organised

•            enthusiastic

In return we can offer you:

•        a positive and innovative learning culture supported by students, staff, parents and governors

•        a collaborative and supportive attitude amongst staff which promotes a sense of teamwork and unity

•        a Senior Leadership Team who is committed to promoting the best environment and outcomes for staff and students

•        an excellent CPD Programme

•        membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Derby High School is an independent day school and we currently educate 640 students between the ages of 3 to 18, in our purpose-built buildings in the leafy suburb of Littleover in Derby. Our Primary School (a member of IAPS) teaches both boys and girls, whilst our Senior School became co-educational in September 2019 with boys joining Years 7 and 12. In September 2022 we will be fully coeducational throughout the school.

Our academic record is particularly strong, with 78% of our 2022 A level entries being graded A*-B, and 78% of GCSE grades being awarded 7-9; this places Derby High significantly ahead of all local schools in both A level and GCSEs.

The school has rigorous child protection procedures in place and the person appointed will be asked to supply information confirming identity and qualifications and will be subject to an enhanced DBS/Section 128 checks.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 1st February 2023.

Interviews: Applications will be assessed in order of receipt and interviews may occur at any stage after applications are received. We reserve the right to appoint before the closing date and therefore invite interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.
