SFCA Teachers’ Pay Scale

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a successful team at one of the country’s top Sixth Form Colleges. Hereford Sixth Form College has over 2000 full-time 16-19 students and an excellent reputation for its results and extra-curricular provision.  Rated Ofsted outstanding in 2007; the College consistently achieves one of the highest Advanced Level points scores per entry of over 100 SFC’s nationally and has outstanding value added results as measured by both the ALIS and ALPS systems.

The Biology Department is one of the departments within the Science curriculum area, which provides A level courses in, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics as well as GCSE Biology.  The AQA specification is taught for both A-level and GCSE Biology. In the last OFSTED inspection, the Science area was awarded a Grade 1 and described as ‘outstanding’.

Biology is a very popular and successful subject with students consistently achieving outstanding results at A Level, both raw and value-added.  The person appointed will be expected to help maintain this record of high achievement as well as demonstrating an enthusiastic commitment to ensuring students enjoy the subject.

The biology department is made up of five full time teachers, all of whom have many years of experience. The post would therefore be suitable for experienced or newly qualified teachers looking for a supportive environment in which to develop their teaching skills.

As part of the role you will be allocated time to support the Head of Department in the implementation of departmental duties. This may include tutoring of students in workshops, organising trips or taking responsibility for aspects of the A-level or GCSE courses.

We are seeking a newly qualified or experienced Teacher of Biology, to teach A Level and GCSE Biology resit. Ideally you will have a good honours degree in Biology or Biological Science. You will be able to demonstrate up to date knowledge of biological advances in Science. You will be able to motivate and relate to 16-19-year olds, teaching them effectively. You will have excellent organisational and planning ability. You will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and be a strong team player.

The recent challenges posed by the Coronavirus means the year ahead will be a challenging one. You should be resilient, committed and adaptable to the challenges ahead. You should be prepared to work hard within the team and be ambitious both on a personal level and for the department.
