We are seeking to appoint a part-time teacher of Biology. The advertised post is 0.6 of full-time, although there may be some scope for increasing this in due course.
The successful applicant will be involved in teaching Biology in years 7-11 across key stages 3 and 4. In the first instance, the role involves teaching Biology in years 9-11 and also general science in years 7 and 8. Maximum class size is fifteen students, which enables teachers to gain a detailed understanding of each individual student’s strengths and needs. We value independence of thought above mere acquisition of skills, and although we seek to provide the best possible preparation for public exams we aim to do so in such a way as to foster real understanding and enjoyment of the material being studied.
We do not require our teachers to have a PGCE, or equivalent qualification, but we do expect them to have demonstrable teaching expertise and, given the nature of the post, the successful candidate will need to be able to take on teaching of groups at a key point in the academic year, with confidence and experience. Flexibility of approach, a sense of fun, a readiness to respond to students’ individual needs and an enthusiastic, open approach to teaching are among the qualities we value in addition to an ability to come up with a ready set of metaphors to explain some of the more complex aspects of the subject. d’Overbroeck’s offers teachers and students alike a friendly and welcoming environment where classes are small and standards are high.
To apply, please submit a fully completed application form, along with a covering letter and full CV to HR@doverbroecks.com and a signed copy sent to:
