Teacher of Biology 

This is a fixed term post with a possibility of a permanent contract thereafter, at 0.6 FTE, for a teacher with enthusiasm and drive who wishes to work in an academic sixth form college. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to be part of a dedicated and innovative team of teachers who promote a lively, student-centred learning environment where a strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students is of paramount importance. The College is fully committed to supporting all members of staff through continuing professional development and in-service training.      

There are approximately 600 students currently studying A Level Biology, following the OCR Biology ‘A’ specification. The subject, which is taught in a stimulating suite of specialist rooms, is a key part of the College’s curriculum and is popular with students. Students learn through a variety of teaching and learning strategies delivered by eight experienced and well-qualified staff, who are committed to establishing a positive environment that promotes high quality learning.  In addition students develop their understanding of Biology through a variety of practical experiments and a range of fieldwork experiences. Supporting these practical components of the course are a team of dedicated science technicians. To develop student’s independent learning, the department organise a series exam board revision webinars and subscribe to additional online resources. The hard work and enthusiasm of the department is reflected by half of the cohort every year leaving to study Biology related subjects at university.
