Forest is seeking to appoint a well-qualified, dynamic, and dedicated Teacher of Biology to join an exceptionally successful and talented Biology department to teach KS3 Science, IGCSE Biology and OCR A level Biology. The successful candidate will have demonstrable teaching expertise with the ability to promote the engagement and enjoyment of Biology beyond the classroom. The science faculty occupies a central place in the academic life of the School. It is very well resourced, consisting of twenty-three highly qualified and specialist teachers delivering academic results that are some of the School’s strongest.
We have a balanced science programme, incorporating most of the features of the National Curriculum and is taught to pupils aged 11-13 and satisfies schemes of work in Key Stage 3.
In year 7 and 8, each class has one science teacher. In year 9 pupils are taught by three specialist teachers and follows a programme of study in preparation for their science GCSE’s.
In year 10, they choose either Double Award Science or any two or all three, of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, following the Edexcel IGCSE course.
All there sciences are popular subjects at A level. The OCR specification is followed in Biology. Pupils are encouraged to participate in the Biology Challenge (year 9 and 10) and the Biology Olympiad (year 12 and 13). A Level results in Biology have been pleasing for a considerable time, with an average of 80% obtaining A* or B grades in the last three years. Each year a number of pupils apply to university to read biology, medicine, dentistry and veterinary studies.
