Job overview

"Students first – raising standards and transforming lives”

Are you an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of PE looking for a new challenge in an Outstanding Trust? Come and join our team at Outwood Academy Carlton!

Achieving Academy status in February 2016 as part of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust, Outwood Academy Carlton is going from strength to strength. Based in the attractive village of Carlton, we offer an exceptional education and are enjoying significant improvement across every key measure and in every subject. In January 2019, Ofsted noted that “Leaders at all levels are resolute in their belief that pupils are entitled to the highest quality of education and this is reflected in their actions. Capacity for improvement in the future is strong”.

You can help us take things to the next level.

The Academy wishes to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic subject specialist who will engage with our ethos which places students first. Being a committed and imaginative teacher you will support the rapid and on-going developments within the faculty as we strive to improve attainment across the academy.

Applications are invited from experienced teachers of PE who wish to develop their career within a very supportive environment which focuses on your professional development .The ideal candidate will have the ability to support the development of sports such as Football and Rugby, experience of delivering Level 2 qualifications and a commitment to developing the enrichment curriculum for our students.

Understanding the importance of excellent learning and teaching, you will have a genuine regard for young people and high professional standards.

Outwood Academy Carlton is situated in North East Barnsley and is easily accessible from South and West Yorkshire, with Wakefield, Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Pontefract all within commuting distance. We are just 5 miles from the M1.

The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through our own network of teaching schools.

If you care about the success of your students and colleagues, and have the energy and determination to make that success a reality, we would welcome your application.

Outcomes for students have improved hugely over the last 6 years across all measures; for example, the proportion of students achieving a grade 4 or better in English and mathematics has risen by over 30% during this period. We are now performing at or above the national average across the board and are one of the top performing schools in Barnsley. Outcomes will continue to improve, with Ofsted stating that “Attainment and progress demonstrate rapid improvement for current pupils”

We were delighted to receive a ‘good’ judgement in our January 2019 Ofsted inspection. Inspectors recognised that “Staff morale is high” and that “A well-considered programme of professional development ensures that staff continuously improve their skills and knowledge”. We are very proud of the way in which we have transformed the school in every possible way and you can be part of the next stage of our journey.

Ofsted praised the behaviour of our students and we pride ourselves on the behaviour of our students, both in lessons and around the site. Critically, the excellent focus and engagement of our students allows teachers to teach and students to succeed

If you join Outwood Academy Carlton, you will be joining the Outwood Grange Family of Schools and will therefore enjoy so many opportunities, whether you wish to stay in one school or work across the Family of Schools. When you are ready to move up, you will not need to move on. All of our Academies have one common goal: to give children, irrespective of ability or circumstances, the chance to succeed.
