Job overview

The Business & Economics department has a strong reputation for the scope of its provision offering a range of courses to suit different interests and abilities. These include A Level Economics, A level Business, BTEC Business Level 3 and Level 2 and BTEC IT Level 3.

The successful applicant will join an experienced department which prides itself on its team ethos. It is essential that the person appointed is willing and able to teach across a range of courses, including both Economics and Business, although there is some flexibility to tailor the timetable commitment to make best use of teacher strengths.

Results within the department are above benchmark for the Sixth Form College sector. Performance in A level Economics and Business are good: typically some 50% of students achieve a grade A or B at A level, with a 100% pass rate. Outcomes for BTEC Business are outstanding: for example, at level 3 over 95% of grades achieved at the end of the two-year National Extended Diploma/Diploma were Distinctions. In the level 2 BTEC Business, all the students in the group achieved at or above their expected grade.

The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
