Job overview

Do you want to join a Multi Academy Trust consisting of Outstanding and Good Schools where there is the potential for career development and promotion?

We are looking for outstanding teachers or NQTs to potentially teach across all key stages.

There are also promoted posts available for teachers looking for subject responsibility, head of year or assistant head of year roles.

We are seeking to appoint outstanding teachers with the potential to teach at all key stages to join our supportive and highly effective school. If you feel you have a passion for teaching and possess a creative approach to teaching, then we would love to hear from you. We welcome applications from experienced and newly-qualified teaching staff educated to degree level with Qualified Teacher Status.

The King John School is an outstanding school in Benfleet which is a heavily oversubscribed 11-18 mixed comprehensive of over 2000 students, of which approx. 420 are in the sixth form.

As a school, our Progress 8 measure places us in the top 25% of the country. Over 76% of our students achieved a standard pass in English and mathematics at GCSE (Grade 4 or above) and we are recognised by the Department for Education for our proactive promotion of the English Baccalaureate within our curriculum. Our A-level results have been exemplary, with over 60% of year 13 students gaining A* - B grades in all of their subjects. The school enjoys an excellent reputation, having received a letter from the Director of Education in September commending the school on the ‘fantastic’ results this year. The school was also graded at the end of September 2013 as ‘Outstanding’ across all key areas.

Our school offers a high-quality educational experience through a broad curriculum in a caring, friendly environment, and sets the highest expectations for all. Through high-quality teaching and learning and exceptional wide-ranging enrichment opportunities, the school seeks to cultivate students’ motivation, confidence and intelligence. We strive to be at the forefront of school improvement and innovation and invest heavily in the creation of a learning community. To this end, a new extension to the sixth form, humanities building and state-of-the-art assembly hall have been constructed recently to accommodate the growing number of students wishing to join us.

The school has good staff retention and is wholly committed to continued professional development. All children of appointed permanent teaching staff are eligible to apply for an automatic place at King John School. The school offers free healthcare through Benenden Healthcare Scheme which employees are entitled to join.

Benfleet Teaching School Alliance: This is a partnership formed between three outstanding schools. It is dedicated to strengthening and developing teaching. The Alliance delivers high-quality training, shares excellent teaching practices, offers school-to-school support, develops leadership potential and supports professional development along with offering a CPD programme.

A very warm welcome to The King John School, a large, mixed comprehensive with a well-established sixth form.

The school was created in 1949, and since then has served the ever-growing communities of Thundersley and Benfleet, as well as welcoming students from further afield. It is a popular, oversubscribed school where students’ very high attendance and levels of achievement reflect their commitment and enjoyment of school life.
