 About the role:  The Leigh Academy are seeking to appoint a committed, experienced and motivated Teacher of Business Studies to  join us after the Easter break 2017.  For the successful candidate we  can offer the opportunity to join a collaborative Department and wider Trust with highly experienced teachers and leaders working in the  Faculty.  For this academic year, we have the following take up across  Key Stage 4 and 5;

  • Business Studies Key Stage 4 – Year 10, 100 students and Year 11, 100 students
  • Business Studies Key Stage 5 – AS Level, 60 students and A2 Level, 25 students
  • Finance Key Stage 5 – AS Level, 30 students and A2 Level, 25 students

We have some excellent grades across the subjects and year groups but  there is always room for progress of which our successful candidate  will play a pivotal part in.  Our aims are to focus on Department  growth, whilst pushing and developing excellent levels of attainment and  achievement across the board.

We follow AQA for Business Studies at GCSE and AS, and Edexcel at  A2.  For Finance at Key Stage 5 we follow IFS.  In addition, we have a  fully resourced Department.  Day to day responsibilities and duties of  this role are in line with the National Standard Teaching Standards.

Working for the Leigh Academy:  The Leigh Academy is  a secondary school at the heart of the community and our small school  model ensures that each and every student gets the personal support and  challenge they need to reach their full potential. The Academy is  divided into four Colleges: Brunel, Chaucer, Darwin and Da Vinci - each  has their own personality and range of specialisms, allowing them to be  unique.   Overall, the academy is a dynamic and exciting place to work and the  fantastic Leadership Team are committed to making it a great place to  work for staff at all stages in their careers.

Our award winning  building and facilities are modern, light and airy and the open learning  plazas and classrooms built around a day-lit wintergarden give the  academy a unique and special character.  It is also an academy that is  conscious of its environment as it is brimming with sustainable  innovations such as passive cooling, earth tubes and passive  ventilation. We can offer you the chance to be part of a strong and collaborative  department not only within The Leigh Academy, but within the wider Trust  as well.  Full support will be provided and you'll have the tools and  environment needed to teach in a way that works for you.

We know that  being a teacher can be both challenging and rewarding in equal measures  and that you thrive on inspiring young adults and stimulating their  curiosity.  At The Leigh Academy we aim to give our teachers the freedom  to innovate and inspire our students as we know this is a crucial  ingredient to driving great learning outcomes.

What are we looking for in you?  To be successful  you need to be a qualified teacher who is passionate and knowledgeable  about your subject and possesses the ability to teach consistently at an  outstanding level. Whether you are at the start of your career or an  expert teacher we focus on what attributes you will bring to the academy  and most importantly what impact you will have on our students. As a Trust we feel it is important to hire for the right attitude  which is why we look for teachers that are enthusiastic, focused and  resilient to the day to day pressures that teaching brings.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  As part of  Leigh Academies Trust you will have the opportunity to collaborate with  your peers and share best practice at Academy level and across the whole  Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through  experience that we perform better when we work together.  You will also  be expected to undertake regular self-development to continue your  professional development and hopefully progress further within the  organisation. As part of the 'cluster' structure, all of our academies  are grouped together in key geographical area to enable them to be able  to support each other and share resources.  It also offers staff access  to career opportunities across the Trust allowing them to progress their  career without switching employers.   For more information on working  for the Trust please visit our careers pages.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust, we are  passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all  bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race,  beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally,  without compromise. The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful  candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to  safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in  place across the Trust.
