Collyer’s is a Sixth Form College, rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted, based in Horsham, West Sussex.
We are looking to welcome a suitably qualified teacher of Business Studies to deliver this thriving subject area as maternity cover for the fixed term of one year. We have five teachers in the Business subject area and the team works closely together to maintain the outstanding level of provision identified in the last OFSTED report.
Qualifications: Appropriate subject related degree and teaching qualification. (PGCE, Cert Ed).
Experience: It would be desirable that you have experience of teaching across a range of Business Studies courses including A level as well as BTEC Level 3 and Level 2. Some industry experience would also be an advantage.
Knowledge and Skills: A sound understanding of Business, good practical skills and the use of information technology to support teaching and learning. The ability to ensure the effective planning and delivery of courses in the subject area.
Personal Qualities: Good teamwork and communication skills, a flexible approach and organised work patterns.
Motivation and expectations: A commitment to high standards of teaching and learning and the ability to encourage extra-curricular activities in Business.
Salary range: On the new SFCA salary scale £22,937 (Point 1) to £38,364 (Point 9).
Business Studies at A level follows the revised linear AQA specification. The A Level course currently has a cohort of 110 students in year 1 and 70 in year 2.
The BTEC Level 2 & Level 3 Diploma in Business is currently taught following the Edexcel specification. Approximately 70 students follow BTEC courses.
Each subject area within the faculty has a Head of Subject who has responsibility for deploying resources, quality assurance and examination administration. Staff are friendly and supportive of one another. Curriculum resources are of a high standard and shared among staff. The subject area has the advantage of a Library & Curriculum Support Officer who helps co-ordinate and compile learning resources. A new teaching block was completed in March 2016 which is used by the subject areas of Law, Business and Economics. The Graham Baird building also includes a state of the art IT suite of 30 computers.
All full-time teaching staff are also expected to act as personal tutors. Tutors monitor progress and offer support and guidance to some twenty-five students.
