Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional Business teacher to join a strong, stable and creative subject team, which is committed to achieving excellent outcomes for all our students and developing in students a real passion for the subject. The team works collaboratively to share good and innovative practice and has a relentless focus on ensuring that teaching and learning is effective across the department.

Business

Our well-established and successful Business team consists of two specialists and one part-time teacher. The department consistently performs in the top 20% of schools nationally.

The Department is committed to using ICT to support independent learning and to developing new ways of teaching and learning, which focus upon student needs. There is a strong tradition of offering vocational education alongside a more traditional curriculum. The school has strong links with local businesses and we are always looking to widen the number of businesses, with which we work in partnership. These exciting developments have impacted upon student motivation and helped to produce excellent results.

In terms of ICT, the department has ready access to Chromebooks and specialist business software to help students manage their own learning.

Key Stage 4

All students in Year 9 take Business as one of their core subjects. Students then start their Business courses in Year 10 and sit their examinations at the end of Year 11. There are two pathways available for students. Those opting for the GCSE route will study the Edexcel GCSE in Business. The students that choose the vocational route, will study the Tech Award in Enterprise. The emphasis is on experiential learning, with opportunities for students to engage in enterprise activities and to participate in such competitions as The Big Idea. Personalisation is viewed as a key to success and consequently time is built into lessons to engage in individual planning, monitoring and self-assessment of student work.

Post 16

Business studies is a very popular choice at Post-16. There are two highly successful courses offered to students; the Edexcel ‘A’ level in Business Studies and the BTEC Extended Certificate in Business.

Introduction from the Headteacher

Thank you for the interest you have shown in the recently advertised post at our school.

Pudsey Grammar School is a heavily oversubscribed mixed comprehensive secondary school located in the heart of the market town of Pudsey. Situated between Leeds and Bradford the town has valued its independence from its two larger neighbours. The school has 1200 students with a thriving Sixth Form of 250 students all taught in a state of the art building. The innovative and unique design of the building creates a calm atmosphere very different to many secondary schools.

The school has a long tradition in the town, being established as Pudsey Grammar School in 1908. Although the school is taught in a state of the art building, our core values are highly traditional based on the goal of ensuring that every student reaches their true potential. Our school is not just about the students gaining knowledge and qualifications although these are extremely important. We believe in teaching young people core values of decency, social skills and how to be a good citizen in an ever changing world.  We want their character to develop and grow and for them to leave us with an inquiring and independent mind. We want our students to gain the best qualifications they are capable of whilst experiencing a range of opportunities which are second to none. As a result, the school is extremely popular with our community and is significantly over-subscribed every year.

Our Sixth Form has grown in recent years and we now have 250 post-16 students studying at Pudsey Grammar School. This allows us to run a range of courses and provides our staff with valuable experience teaching subjects at this level.

Our staff are exceptional in their dedication and commitment to the students. Relationships in the school are extremely strong and this underpins the ethos of the school.  Teaching and learning is the key focus of the organisation and everything that we do is designed to ensure that the classroom experience for the students is excellent.

We pride ourselves in the fantastic support and professional development that we offer to staff which ensures that they are equipped with all the necessary skills to deliver excellent lessons to the students on a daily basis.

The school is a foundation Trust school and our partners include global companies such as HSBC bank, the IT company RM, Warwick University which is member of the Russell Group of UK universities, alongside leading local business and training providers Appris and the Place group. The school has already felt the benefit with many staff completing MAs through Warwick University. We will be further developing the work of the Trust over the next year so that more staff and students experience the benefits of these excellent links.

There are many positive comments in our Ofsted report 2019 such as:

* Progress made by pupils has accelerated considerably in the last 2 years.

* There is a calm and purposeful atmosphere about the school.

* Behaviour in lessons is good. Pupils settle quickly and show positive attitudes to their  learning.
