Job overview

Having opened in our brand new multi-million pound building in September 2015 with record student numbers Health Futures UTC is pleased to offer an outstanding individual the opportunity to join us as we continue to expand.

You will be an outstanding teacher of Chemistry and will work with our Subject Leader and the team of specialist Science teachers to design and deliver the Science curriculum to meet the needs and interests of our students, ensuring that they achieve the highest possible academic standards whilst supporting our clear ethos and focus. You will be supported in this by our state of the art facilities which ensure you can fully embrace the range learning technologies and techniques available in our fast developing world.

Working with a tight-knit group of committed staff, your professional opportunities will be second to none as we develop our provision together and ensure the best possible outcomes and experience for our students. This combined with our partnership with the University of Wolverhampton and other providers ensures that you will have every opportunity to develop your career and gain further qualifications.

Established with the backing of the University of Wolverhampton and in partnership with a wide range of health sector employer partners, including all West Midlands NHS Trusts, WM Ambulance Service and the Mid-counties Co-operative Pharmacy, Health Futures is responding to the identified skills gap that is preventing local young people taking up the varied and valuable career paths in this sector.

As the welfare and safeguarding of our pupils is paramount, this post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Health Futures University Technical College (UTC) is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 14-19 secondary school, situated in West Bromwich in the West Midlands. The school has formed a unique partnership with 20 health, education and public sector organisations from across the West Midlands to enable it to combine national qualification teaching with hands-on project learning with healthcare professionals.

Health Futures UTC, the first UTC in the UK with healthcare and health sciences as its specialism, opened in September 2015 in a brand new multi-million pound building. Over 250 regional students interested in careers in healthcare and health science sectors joined Health Futures for the first time. The school is now accepting applications from young people living in Birmingham, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Solihull and North Worcestershire who would like to join as Year 10 or Year 12 students.

Values and vision

The curriculum at Health Futures UTC focuses on healthcare and science but strongly embraces English, Maths and Science and requires students to study these subjects. These subjects are combined with practical and technical qualifications to ensure transferable learning into the world of work and further education. Students also have the opportunity to develop business, technology, enterprise, financial and management skills.

Health Futures UTC believes that children flourish when encouraged to explore and express the wide range of ideas and possibilities that occur to young minds. It believes they are known to especially benefit from creative learning and collaborative working at a young age. The UTC approach to education reflects these philosophies and taps into the imagination and inventiveness often found in younger learners.
